My aunt Mabel wasn’t really known for her wits and this bothered her. She decided she was finished being the family joke and when she was offered an experimental and highly questionable treatment which would increase her intelligence she jumped at the chance. Mabel received Lysergic acid diethylamide injections directly into her brain twice a week for several years. Despite Mabel’s enthusiasm for the treatment and despite the fact her hair never looked better, the experiment ended and was deemed a failure because apparently injecting the brain with LSD causes brain damage (who knew?) Mabel fortunately took this all in stride; she didn’t really seem to mind. The important thing was that finally for the first time in her life she was happy; her hair did look better and she was just stupid enough not to realize she was stupid. She lived the rest of her days in blissful ignorance….we should all be so lucky.
